"When I Wake" is such a stellar nugget of pop perfection that The Changes decided to use it as the first track on both their 2003 self-titled EP and this year's Today Is Tonight. Swathed in an ethereal atmosphere and chopped up by swatches of sharp guitar, the song is proof that kids today are still listening to Simple Minds records (and that's a good thing). Sharing the bill is the pride of Springfield, Missouri, and hero of music bloggers everywhere, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. If all the critical praise for SSLYBY's album Broom is any evidence, there's still a lot of love out there for slightly moody, guitar-based indie rock. As if there were any doubt, right?
