Attention anyone who goes to the same White Elephant party Ms. Day is invited to every year: There are gift spoilers contained in this missive. But since the River City Professionals (found online at www.rivercityprofessionals.org) are hosting a White Elephant Gift Exchange as well (at the Missouri History Museum, Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue), Day feels she must share her vast knowledge about these get-togethers. Now, the whole idea behind this kind of present swap is to package up something tasteful that you no longer want (this year, Ms. Day plans to unload the first season of Boy Meets World DVDs Topanga, Cory, et al. are just too young for this box set to be enjoyable). But to ensure someone else at least thinks he or she wants these, Day will wrap them up beautifully maybe in an egg-shell blue Tiffany bag. For the RCP event, you also must include your business card within the wrapping. Now, let the swapping begin! When it's all said and done, you'll leave a White Elephant party maybe with something you'll actually use, and maybe not. But hearing the story behind the gift and meeting new people are what the RCP social is all about! So here are the details: Admission is free, bringing a present is required, the party runs from 5:30 to 9 p.m., and you must RSVP (you can do so online) by Friday, December 15.
Tue., Dec. 19
