Whether they're hung on the wall or draped over a railing or a footboard, quilts are often viewed merely as bright and quaint coverlets. But to the people behind the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative, these handmade blankets are so much more. Take comfort in the group's efforts this weekend when you view Alzheimer's: Forgetting Piece by Piece, an exhibit of 52 art quilts. These works were influenced by the experiences of those who have lost someone to the disease, and they are on display during the Thimble & Thread Quilt Expo 2007, held Friday through Sunday (March 9 through 11) at the Greensfelder Recreation Complex at Queeny Park (550 Weidman Road, Ballwin).
