Each St. Louisan has a deep and abiding love for his or her particular neighborhood. It’s a fine character trait, but it can also lead to a sort of isolationism -- you become so neighborhood-proud that you begin to look down on all of the others. Martin Cassas has conceived of an intriguing -- and entertaining -- way for all of us to enjoy what our neighbors have: Frontyard Features. Over the course of 40 summer nights, Cassas, with help from Swank Motion Pictures Inc., intends to screen 40 films in some of the finest and most interesting St. Louis neighborhoods. These outdoor movies, screened via digital projector and a large movie screen, will get people on the ground in neighborhoods like the famous Ville, venerable Fairground Park, gorgeous Clifton Heights and classy Carondelet Park. And the best part of this is it’s free – all of the screenings are subsidized by area businesses. Forty movies for free? C’mon, that’s the deal of the summer. The fun begins Saturday, May 5, at dusk (say 8:30 p.m.-ish) in the Southwest Garden Neighborhood with Cinco de Mayo-inspired Three Amigos in Sublette Park (Arsenal Street and Sublette Avenue). Visit www.fyfstl.com for the full schedule.
Sat., May 5
