After his most recent public appearance at the 2006 Grammys (and another brief appearance early last month in Las Vegas), Sly Stone retreated right back to wherever he's been hiding for the past couple of decades. But a post-awards-show spike in CD sales convinced others in the Family Stone that it was time to get back on the road. Led by founding members Rose Stone on keyboards and vocals, saxophonist Jerry Martini and trumpeter Cynthia Robinson, the Original Family Stone is now reviving the signature mix of soul, rock, funk, gospel and psychedelia that made hits such as "Stand," "Everyday People," "I Want to Take You Higher" and "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" ubiquitous in their heyday. Even without Sly, that transcendent catalog of tunes should make this show worth checking out.
