An election-season essay from one of America's greatest playwrights.

    By David Mamet

Your mother taught you to honor God, your country and apple pie. And on this, her special day, you should show her you learned your lessons well -- by taking her out for a little apple pie and then to the shooting range of the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area (2360 Highway D, St. Charles; 636-441-4554) for Mother’s Day Family Free Shooting on the Range. Everyone in the family is allowed to exercise their Second Amendment rights for free starting at 8 a.m.; you are limited to two hours on the range, or two rounds of skeet (if Ma’s into that). But that’s two full hours of quality shooting time -- as if there’s any other kind of shooting time, right? No reservations are necessary. Just show up, tell the attendant that you love your mother, and fire away. Bull's-eye, Ma! No wonder Dad married you!
