There are many indisputable truths surrounding baked goods. Fresh doughnuts smell incredible. Cookies get lonely without a glass of milk. Cake is delicious; pie is even more so. But while many bakers and home cooks can turn out excellent confections, it’s the pastry chefs who are at the vanguard. Boosted by badass pastry pros like Ace of Cakes’ Duff Goldman, these culinary artists are finally getting the attention they deserve. Today, the ninth annual Chefs at the Market series welcomes Casey Shiller, the coordinator of baking and pastry arts at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park’s renowned culinary arts program. Shiller shares his sweet secrets beginning at 10 a.m. in the Market Courtyard at the Soulard Farmer's Market (730 Carroll Street).
