If the idea of the early Ramones on a sugar-and-caffeine speedball sounds like a workable idea — or better yet, if it doesn't — you should catch the Brooklyn quartet Cause Co-Motion! at its debut St. Louis show. Lead singer Arno and drummer Jock have roots in the mid-'90s micro-indie cassette label scene — their earliest tapes mixed pop sensitivity with noisy overdrive, although the latest music both rethinks and refines this approach. Tracks such as "Which Way Is Up?" start with basic three-chord pop riffing and nerdy/sensitive vocals, but are then warped so far out of context (usually within two minutes or less) that the result approximates classic messy post-punk bashers the Swell Maps, Half Japanese and Pink Flag-era Wire. All this, and a reputation for a hot live show, should cement your Monday night plans.
