Nowadays, when you spend an afternoon out shopping, you’re not just getting a dose of retail therapy -- you’re helping to fight terrorism. Or something like that. This consumerist concept is what inspired artist Cheryl Yun’s exhibit Cheryl Yun Collection: Mirror/Repeat. The show features sculptural fashiony items all done up with various images from the news. Most striking is Terrorist Tile Bag, a purse covered in pictures of terrorists. By using disturbing photographs to construct various innocuous objects, the artist hopes to rouse us from our blind spending and raise our awareness of the tragedies happening everywhere. Cheryl Yun Collection: Mirror/Repeat opens with a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, at Gallery 210 on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-5976 or www.gallery210.umsl.edu). The exhibit remains up through Saturday, December 8, and the gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Oct. 18. Continues through Dec. 8, 2007
