The idea began with Don Wolff, who each week on his now-cancelled KMOX radio program would dedicate a different recording of the standard "Someone to Watch Over Me" to police officers, firefighters and EMTs. During an on-air visit with singer Anita Rosamond, Wolff suggested she record the tune and sell copies to raise money for the Backstoppers, which helps families of public-safety workers killed in the line of duty. Rosamond and her manager Terry Perkins upped the ante, gathering other jazz and pop performers to contribute to a full-length CD and benefit concert. Sunday's show and CD release event will feature Rosamond, Ralph Butler, Jeanne Trevor, the Tom Kennedy Trio, Wild, Cool & Swingin' and more, with all proceeds going to the Backstoppers.
