The NonProphet Theater Company does double duty for the next few weeks with its Evening of One-Act Plays. The two shows — David Mamet's "A Life in the Theater" and "Lip Service" by Howard Korder — have two characters each, and the same two actors appear in both shows back-to-back. Mamet's play is a backstage drama about an older actor and a newcomer sharing a dressing room while performing a repertory season; each of them critiques the other's performance as well as his own in that trademark Mamet dialogue, offering a revealing look at an actor's nightly rituals. "Lip Service" is about the two hosts of a B-grade news program; one has gravitas but is stodgy and dull, the other is flashy and driven but as deep as a rain puddle. And as a theatrical aperitif, the NonProphets present their improv-sketch comedy show, the Militant Propaganda Bingo Machine, after the one-acts. It's like you're getting two-two-two shows in one! An Evening of One-Act Plays takes place at 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday (April 11 through 20) at the Tin Ceiling (3159 Cherokee Street; 314-752-5075 or www.nptco.org). Tickets are $12 to $15 for the dual one-acts; stay for the sketch-comedy show for $5 more, or come just for the sketch comedy (it starts at 10:30 p.m.) and pay $10.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: April 11. Continues through April 20, 2008
