Is it possible to feel stressed out when a vibraphone is being played nearby? Unlikely — the warm, reverberating tones emanating from those rectangular aluminum bars never fail to cast a cool, calm spell. Local vibesman Jeff Lash is a master of the mallets, knowing when to break out a serpentine solo and when to let the notes hover in the ether for maximum effect. A graduate of the genre-blending Hot House Sessions collective, Lash mixes jazz standards, original compositions, and reworkings of rock & roll tunes by the likes of Skid Row and Carole King into his sets. The Jeff Lash Trio performs for free as part of the "Not So Quiet!" concert series at 7 p.m. tonight at the Central branch of the St. Louis Public Library (1301 Olive Street).
